United Nations initiative to nurture sport leaders in developing nations

Young people working in grassroots sports projects in developing countries are being offered an opportunity to become future sports leaders thanks to a new United Nations initiative.

The United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace (UNOSDP) has teamed up with the Dream Together Master Program in the South Korean capital of Seoul to give young people the opportunity to complete a master’s degree in sport management.

The Dream Together program aims to promote global sport development through training those who will lead sport in countries where sport is underdeveloped.

It also intends to consolidate international sport cooperation via global networking.

Commenting on the initiative, United Nations Special Adviser on Sport and Development, Wilfried Lemke stated "every investment made into youth and the development of their talent and skill pays off with tangible positive effects at the community level and beyond.”

Run by the Global Sport Management Graduate program at Seoul National University (SNU), the Dream Together program is funded by the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism through the Korea Foundation for the Next Generation Sports Talent using national sports promotional funds, in cooperation with the Korean Olympic Committee (KOC).

Its two-year curriculum is taught by renowned experts of sport industry. It also features an impressive list of invited speakers, including the Special Adviser who joined the program as a special lecturer in 2014 and 2015.
