Understanding pathways to peak performance
Swimming Australia has recently partnered with the Pathways to the Podium Research Project in a multi-sport, multi-national initiative investigating the development of sport expertise.
The Pathways to the Podium Research Project is being conducted by a team of sport scientists from the Australian Institute of Sport, Victoria University, and York University, Canada. The project aims to gain an understanding of the pathways that athletes follow on their way to achieving their peak performance, and the different sporting experiences they have along the way. This information will be used to create guidelines for sport participation so that more athletes will have the chance to achieve their personal best.
Swimmers aged 15-35 from all levels of competition are encouraged to participate. Participation involves completion of an online questionnaire relating to the swimmers' level of involvement in sport and physical activity.
By taking part respondents will have the chance to win a range of prizes including an Apple iPod and gift cards for the Apple store and Amazon.com.
Coaches and administrators are also encouraged to visit the website to find out how their teams can be involved.
For more information about the project, to read about the benefits of participation, and/or to register interest, please visit the Pathways to the Podium website at
