UK Council Bans Naked Changing Room Showering

A UK Council has banned swimmers from showering naked in it's swimming pool changing rooms.

Torridge District Council in North Devon has instructed bathers at the Torridge Pool to keep their swimming costumes on while using the showers following complaints from local schools that pupils were offended by "open nudity" and needed "a certain amount of privacy."

Swimmers at the pool have described the rule as "health and safety gone mad."

Local councilor Hugh Bone said the decision was "ridiculous" and vowed to fight the ban by continuing to shower in the nude.

Grandfather-of-four Bone said "this surely is ridiculous, people should not believe that we are all perverts."

"Boys and men as well as girls and women have always changed in front of each other and this is part of the growing up experience."

Torridge Pool is used by 13 primary and junior schools who have exclusive use of the pool at certain times of the week.

Members of the public can still use the changing rooms at the same time as the pupils, either from a previous swimming session or after using the facility's gym.

Pool General Manager Bob Dermott said asking members to wear a swimsuit during school visiting times was reasonable, stating that there has never been any incidents at the centre and was a safeguard for both children and adults.
