UFC President advises of plans to use island to host international MMA fights

White did not disclose where the island is located, but advised on Twitter “the fight is signed and is 100% on live on ESPN somewhere on Earth.”

With Australia’s NRL also reported to be considering an island location for its competition, the UFC plan would presumably see fighters in a quarantine environment on an island, and fighting each other on televised events.

The last UFC event was on 15th March in the Brazilian capital Brasilia.

It became the first event in UFC's history held behind closed doors after the Governor of the Federal District that includes Brasilia declared a ban on all large gatherings in response to coronavirus.

Since then, a UFC fight night in London was also cancelled, as were two other events due to be held at UFC's headquarters in Las Vegas.

Although White still has not even announced a venue for what will be UFC 249 on 18th April, he remains determined to hold the pay-per-view show.

UFC 249 was originally booked in at a venue in the New York suburb of Brooklyn but it did not go ahead due to mass gathering restrictions several weeks ago.

Restrictions on mass gatherings and movement across the USA and in many nations around the world have since prevented other bouts taking place.
