Etihad Stadium's UFC193 event delivers economic impact of $102 million

The UFC has released an economic impact survey on UFC193 which shows that the event, held at Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium, recorded attendance of 56,214 and gross gate takings of $9.65 million.

The figures, which broke both attendance and revenue records, also showed an economic impact of $102 million.

Shortly after the event, which featured a highly anticipated world bantamweight clash between then champion Ronda Rousey and fellow American Holly Holm, then Etihad Stadium Chief Executive Paul Sergeant stated “we successfully engaged and entered into a relationship with the highly professional senior team at UFC, headed by Executives Tom Wright and Dana White, and it ultimately led to the delivery of one of the most, if not the most successful event, hosted in the stadium’s 15 year history.

UFC193 represented the first UFC event in Melbourne, with Victoria having previously banned octagon/cage fighting.

Now, Melbourne is vying with Sydney to host the next UFC bout in Australia.

Responding to a question on this from the Sydney Morning Herald, a UFC spokesperson stated “both cities remain options for the UFC’s return to Australia in November. Melbourne and Sydney represent strong markets for UFC – if social media is an indication a bulk of our fans/followers are from those two cities.”
