UAE fitness operator prepares for Ramadan
With the start of the Islamic Holy month of Ramadan, Dubai-based The Original Fitness Co is offering a series of pre-dawn and evening fitness sessions including programs for women, combat training (Punch Fitness), group training and boot camp sessions as well as personal training.
Ramadan requires all observant Muslims to fast during daylight hours which can make it difficult to adhere to a fitness regime.
Original Fitness Co owner and founder Corey Oliver told Time Out Abu Dhabi "a lot of stress is put on the body and mind during this month.
"Daytime life moves at a slower pace during Ramadan and then completely changes at night when Muslims break their fast. Once they begin eating and being sociable with friends and family, people generally feel more energetic."
Oliver believes that Ramadan should not be used as an excuse to take a break from exercising, adding "its extremely important (to) do some form of physical activity over the next few weeks.
"The ideal time is either very early in the morning after (the) last meal before fasting, or after sunset following (the) first meal.
"Aim for 45 minutes of high-intensity work. Ramadan should be more about maintaining muscle rather than muscle growth."
The Original Fitness Co, which operates in a Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain offers a range of fitness services including:
