Triathlon New Zealand welcome new appointments

Triathlon New Zealand have recently appointed Peter Kadar as their new Performance Operations Manager following on from their appointment in March of Pete de Wet as new Chief Executive.

de Wet, who commenced in his new role last month, comes from leading the Central Districts Cricket Association and has over 23 years of experience in the sports industry working for leading Federations and Sports Agencies in South Africa, Africa, Europe and New Zealand.

He has diverse experience across High Performance, Pathway and Community sports and will bring a strong commercial background, having worked for leading sponsorship agencies in South Africa and Europe.

de Wet advised “I am really privileged to be joining the TRINZ family, and working closely with the Board and the Tri Community to continue to build on the strong foundation that exists in the sport.

“Triathlon has such a rich history in New Zealand, and I look forward to working hard to ensure that we continue to develop the Triathlon story into the future. Success will be built on strong relationships, and I am excited to get out and meet all the stakeholders, athletes and Tri community.”

Triathlon New Zealand Chair Natalie Smith commented the Board are delighted to announce de Wet’s appointment following a comprehensive recruitment process with several excellent candidates. De Wet brings a vast amount of sport management experience and a track record of building high-performing teams.

Smith commented “we are looking forward to leveraging Pete’s expertise, not only in propelling Triathlon’s growth and development from the strong base built over the past six years, but also in continuing the sport’s progression on the World Stage and embracing the mixed team relay events.

“We were particularly impressed with the work Pete has undertaken during his time at CD Cricket, and we are looking forward to Pete leading our strategic plan as we work towards increasing participation numbers, achieving on the world stage and focusing on the wellbeing of our athletes”.

Peter Kadar joins the Triathlon New Zealand team as their new Performance Operations Manager.

Kadar specialises in high performance sport management, running the operational aspects of World Cup and Olympic campaigns. He worked with the NZ Tall Blacks for many years before joining Yachting New Zealand for the NZL Sailing Team’s Tokyo Olympic campaign.

Triathlon is his passion though, so being able to work in the sport he loves is a dream scenario. Kadar grew up swimming and kayaking from a young age, then fell in love with triathlon when he moved to New Zealand in 2009. He regularly competes at the local swim-run series on the North Shore, and he really enjoys the challenge of long-distance racing.

Triathlon New Zealand Chief Executive de Wet enthused “we are super excited to have Peter come onboard, as we know he will be an amazing addition to our group. His experience across the HP system is impressive, and that combined with his love of Triathlon, means he is a perfect fit.”
