Townsville stadium naming rights ready for new sponsor

With the owners of Dairy Farmers Stadium currently in market for a new naming rights partner, the return on investment for the home of rugby league in North Queensland is making sponsors sit up and notice.

At the end of the year Lion Co. will end their long term naming rights agreement at the Stadium, in place since 1999, to focus on community initiatives presenting a unique opportunity for another major sponsor to 'light up their brand'.

Stadiums Queensland General Manager of Business Development and Marketing,

Jaimie Robertson said the stadium in Townsville punches above its weight with key indicators up across the board in 2012.

Robertson explained "research conducted by Repucom shows the key sponsorship indicators relating to brand exposure had big jumps in 2012.

"The television audience for the venue across the NRL season increased by a massive 56% to more than seven million while average broadcast figures for matches held at the stadium rose by 68% to more than 540,000 per game.

"Total TV audience for events at the Stadium was 7.09 million, up from 4.55 million in 2011 while the average audience went from 324,860 to 545,123 this year.

"Crowd attendance has also grown following the North Queensland Cowboys good on field performance in 2012 where they narrowly missed out on a top four finish.

"The venue is actively in the market for new events and will host the end of season Test in October. We're hopeful of announcing another popular event in the coming weeks."

Robertson said Stadium naming rights are tightly held in Queensland, so the opportunity to associate with a well-known and well liked venue where the brand partner becomes adopted as part of the local conversation are very rare.

He added "the return on investment from holding a strong property by far outweighs many other tactics.

"This venue would suit a variety of brands across sectors from the iconic to the up and comer and importantly allows you to position your brand right next to the unbeatable live event experience.

"Our preference is for a long term partnership and when you look at the NRL venues north of the border these opportunities don't come up very often.

"Our partner becomes entwined in the local conversation stretching from Mackay to Cape York as well as receiving solid national exposure on a regular basis with football fixtures played at the venue being broadcast across the country and overseas."

LionCo announced in July it would not return as the stadium's naming rights partner due to a change in its marketing strategy.
