Tourism Training Australia offers webinar to explain upcoming changes to food handling compliance
Tourism Training Australia has highlighted that in addition to the ongoing skill shortages, there are also skilling challenges, including the new requirements for Food Handler and Food Safety Supervisor training.
As we enter the second quarter of 2023, and with the Easter holidays and school breaks currently underway, Tourism Training Australia Chair John Hart notes “although we've managed to recruit additional workers, including students and working holidaymakers, the stresses of the summer and the holiday period are still showing.”
The growth in foodservice, travel, and events has been significant, resulting in an estimated ongoing vacancy pool of upwards of 300,000, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. To address this staffing shortfall, the industry and the government have initiated several schemes, such as the Australian Chamber - Tourism's plan to reimburse Working Holidaymakers their Visa Fee.
TTA has produced a resource that meets the new requirements for food handlers and is working with Restaurant & Catering to offer a solution for supervisors as well. They are holding a webinar on 19th April to explain the new requirements.
