Tourism Fiji appoints new Chief Executive

Tourism Fiji's new Chief Executive, Michael Meade, plans to position Fiji as a global brand on the world travel market.
Meade, an expatriate Australian, succeeds Josefa Tuamoto who stepped down from the position when his contract expired last month.
Meade's background includes senior management and marketing roles with some of the worlds leading hospitality and aviation brands, including Intercontinental Hotels Group, Sheraton, Southern Pacific Hotels Corporation, Rendezvous Hospitality Group, Jin Jiang Hotels in China and British Airways, the Fiji Sun reported.
Fiji's Minister for Tourism Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum told Radio Fiji that Meade would be Tourism Fiji's new acting Chief Executive and was one of the most successful tourism executives in the Asia Pacific region.
Meade's appointment would place Torism Fiji on a new footing, Sayed-Khaiyum explained, stating "we are extremely fortunate to have someone of Michael's calibre spearheading our tourism campaign in the New Year with a focus on positioning Fiji as a global brand on the world travel market. He is a specialist in brand marketing, organisational revitalisation, development of new products and markets. He has very good knowledge of Fiji and Pacific Tourism and has worked throughout the region including holding senior positions in Australia, New Zealand, China, Thailand and Malaysia."
Introduced to industry stakeholders at the recent national tourism office's annual Fiji Industry Day, Meade said he was pleasantly surprised to see "Fiji's strongest selling-point, the warmth and genuine hospitality of the Fijian people, still alive and well in the country."
