Tourism Council WA warn visitors to avoid rogue operators to enjoy a safe holiday season
Western Australians are encouraged to enjoy their holidays with genuine licensed tourism operators amid a rise in reports of unlicensed rogue operators which could pose a risk to customer safety.
Warning that it has received reports from across the tourism industry of an increase in the number of rogue businesses operating tours without transport or national park licences, Tourism Council WA Chief Executive Evan Hall advised “these reports raise real concerns about customer safety, quality service and the environmental protection of our national parks
“These rogue operators may not have valid insurance, vehicle safety checks or apply environmental standards to protect our natural assets.”
Hall (pictured) urged visitors to check that they are dealing with a genuine tourism business by looking for the Quality Tourism Accredited Business logo, adding “the Quality Tourism Accredited Business logo means the business’ licences and public liability insurance have been independently verified.
“If you’re unsure, then ask the business to produce their relevant licences. And if you come across a suspected unlicensed tour operator, report them to the Department of Transport.”
Tourism Council WA recently launched its Holiday in WA campaign, encouraging Western Australians to explore their own state on their next holiday, which supports local jobs and communities. The campaign continues into January.
Hall concluded “if you’re looking for a tour or activity for the family during the holidays, go to www.holidayinwa.com.au and you’ll find genuine licensed tourism operators offering an authentic, local experience.
“This non-profit website lists local accommodation, tours and experiences, and you can compare travellers’ ratings and book direct with tourism businesses, avoiding overseas commissions.”
Rogue operators can be reported to the Western Australian Department of Transport at email: ondemandtransport@transport.wa.gov.au
