Thredbo celebrates 30 years as a premier mountain bike destination

Thredbo has celebrated 30 years of being one of Australia’s premier mountain bike destinations with its recently concluded Gravity Series. Thredbo MTB Park’s closing weekend wrapped up Thredbo’s biggest bike season yet with Chainless Champs as the final event.

Talking of the weekend and the season that was, Thredbo MTB Business Manager, Tim Windshuttle notes “30 Years of Gravity Closing Weekend was the perfect send off to Thredbo’s biggest ever year of Mountain Biking with record numbers, rad trails and plenty of stoke.

“The weather and trail conditions were flawless for the final event of the Gravity Series with over 200 racers having a crack in fancy dress for the unique Chainless Champs event. A big thanks to all competitors who brought some serious fun on Sunday and to everyone who came to Thredbo this weekend and all season long for keeping the vibes high.

“Looking into next season, we have some exciting things on the cards with new trails and the return of some of Australia’s biggest MTB events…we can’t wait.”

The Thredbo Gravity Series, presented by FOX & Kosciuszko Pale Ale, was all about fun, pushing limits and competing against friends through six rounds of racing. Sian Ahern and Thomas Crimmins took out the seasons’ overall champs, securing first place in the Open Women/Men category from results over six main gravity trail events; Snowgums Sprint, Ricochet Rumble, Pump Track Party, Friday Flat Fury, Supertrail Scramble and Chainless Champs. Madeline Lloyd and Aiden Segeri took out the youngest category for the U13 overall champs.

To celebrate 30 years of mountain biking, Thredbo released a three-part video series looking back at the progression of mountain biking in Australia. To view these head to: thredbo.com.au/activities/biking/30-years-of-gravity/
