Technogym app launched at Expo Milan

Technogym has marked its role as Official Wellness Partner of Expo Milan 2015 by launching a new app designed to motivate exercisers to move more and become healthier.

The leading wellness, fitness and sport equipment brand, is promoting its vision of a ‘Wellness on the Go’ lifestyle giving users the ability to access their wellness data anywhere, at any time, including at the gym, at home, outdoor, at work and when travelling.

The app also enables users to contribute to Technogym's, ‘Let’s Move for a Better World’, a social campaign that allows users to donate their physical movement and convert ‘Moves’ (Technogym’s unit of measurement to track movement) into meals for children in countries affected by malnutrition.

Supported by the World Food Program, the campaign was launched at Expo Milan 2015 on its opening day (1st May) with the global goal of turning a global health issue, like obesity, into a an opportunity to fight world hunger.

In practice, the Technogym App measures user’s personal daily movement index and assigns a daily movement target and helps motivate users to reach it

Thanks to Technogym's MyWellness Cloud, the Technogym app integrates indoor training performed using gym equipment with daily life activities and outdoor training (running or cycling), directly through GPS and smartphone accelerometer functions. The app can also be integrated with the most popular wearable devices and tracking apps, in particular Apple Health Kit and Apple watch.

Technogym’s wider relationship with Expo Milan 2015 is seeing the global wellness leader highlight the relationship between diet and exercise, and the balance between the energy injected into the body through food and the energy consumed through exercise, over the event’s six month duration

Through the integration of fitness gear, apps, wearable devices, audio-visual technologies and wellness programmes, Technogym will showcase modes of movement and exercise that are accessible in everyday life and places: at home, at work, at school, in hospital, while travelling, at the gym or outdoors.

At the main entrance to the Expo, Technogym has established an activity area where visitors can explore tomorrow's gym environment, a lifestyle hub connected to the places where people do what they do every day, seen as 9 interactive areas running along the Decumanus, the main thoroughfare of the Expo Site.

In keeping with the Wellness on the go philosophy – Technogym's vision of how to make wellness available to everybody, at any time of the day and everywhere – visitors will be able to try out wellness solutions that can be used wherever they happen to be during the day and not only for those few weekly hours dedicated to sport.

Technogym founder and Chairman Nerio Alessandri explains “we are proud to support the Expo 2015 project with our technologies and scientific contribution.

"Today, wellness has become a huge international trend (and) both governments and companies are clearly becoming more and more aware of policies which focus on health education.”

Expo Milan 2015 is the current Universal Exposition being hosted by Milan, Italy from 1st May to 31st October 2015.

Once known as the World’s Fair, this is the second time Milan has hosted the exposition, the first being the Milan International of 1906.
