Teams from 21 nations to take part in Ultrarunners 50 kilometres World Championship in Qatar
Teams from 21 nations have confirmed the participation of their athletes in the Second International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) 50 kilometres World Championship at Qatar’s Aspire Zone on 11th November.
The IAU-accredited championship was first hosted by the Aspire Zone Foundation in 2015 and this year will feature more than 100 of the world’s best long-distance runners competing for titles in male, female and group races.
The list of participating countries includes: Argentina, Canada, Croatia, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Japan, Kenya, Latvia, Mongolia, Netherlands, Nigeria, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Chinese Taipei, Uruguay, United States of America and Zimbabwe.
The IAU’s commitment to host the international championship for three consecutive years at the Aspire Zone is seen as a testament to its trust in the Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF)’s capacity to organise international events, with the IAU relies heavily on AZF’s organisational capabilities, world-class facilities and experts.
In parallel, the AZF has extended the Aspire International 6.5 kilometre race registration window until Saturday 29th October to allow enthusiasts across Qatar the opportunity to run alongside IAU professional long-distance ultrarunners.
The Aspire International 6.5 kilometre is a 50 kilometre m individual race with team relays (five persons) in a multi-lap format, designed to challenge runners to complete in six hours.
The event also features a new Fan Zone will include a myriad of activities for all family members such as henna drawing, face painting for children, and a tent that gives visitors a glimpse into a life in the desert.
The redesigned race course comprises tarmac, tile and paved roads, which will be closed to traffic and well-lit for the duration of the evening race.
