Sydney Thunder WBBL secures new home ground at Drummoyne Oval

The City of Canada Bay has announced a five year partnership with Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) team - Sydney Thunder - which sees Drummoyne Oval, a multi-use sports ground in Sydney’s inner-west, become the club's new home ground.

City of Canada Bay Mayor Michael Megna said the partnership represents a fantastic opportunity to enhance the City's vibrant sporting culture and shared "we are delighted to welcome Sydney Thunder to Drummoyne Oval, a world-class facility that is set to become an electrifying venue for cricket fans over the next five years.

"Having an elite team like Sydney Thunder call Drummoyne Oval home will not only enhance the City's reputation as a premier sporting destination but also bring significant economic benefits.”

Sydney Thunder General Manager Trent Copeland enthused "we're thrilled to call Drummoyne Oval our new home for WBBL.

"This partnership is a fantastic opportunity to give our players and fans the consistent home venue they deserve, and bring top-tier cricket to an enthusiastic and welcoming community. We look forward to sharing the excitement with fans in the City of Canada Bay."

From November 2024, Drummoyne Oval will host several high-profile WBBL matches, beginning with a thrilling lineup of three events this season:

  • Tuesday, 12th November 6:10-9:30pm: Sydney Thunder vs Perth Scorchers

  • Sunday, 17th November 1:55-9:30pm: Melbourne Stars vs Brisbane Heat and Sydney Thunder vs Sydney Sixers

  • Wednesday, 20th November 6:10-9:30pm: Sydney Thunder vs Melbourne Stars

In addition to world-class cricket, Sydney Thunder will also host a Cricket & Culture Festival on Sunday, 17th November, including food and drink options, Bhangra dancers, Bollywood dancing classes, inflatables, live DJ, henna and face painting, tape ball games and more.

There is also the potential for an additional match if Sydney Thunder make the finals series. As part of the agreement, from 2024 to 2029, Drummoyne Oval will continue to host a minimum of two games per season.

Mayor Megna added "we are proud to support women in sport and to promote Drummoyne Oval as a first-class venue. It's a fantastic opportunity for our community to experience world-class cricket right on our doorstep and I encourage everyone to come down.”

Tickets for the matches will be available at the gate or for purchase in advance. Children under 16 can attend free, and locals are able to use the promo code WBBLSYD10 to receive 20% off. Click here to purchase tickets.
