Sydney Harbour Expo to operate temporary Glebe Island events venue
Sydney Harbour Expo@Glebe Island has been selected to build and operate the interim events facility that will operate at Glebe Island during the redevelopment of Sydney's convention, exhibition and entertainment precinct.
Sydney Harbour Expo, a company founded by event and equipment hire company Pages, will create a fully enclosed, fully serviced, marquee-style structure of 25,000 metre2 for the Glebe Island venue.
Beating four other bidders, Sydney Harbour Expo@Glebe Island will build and operate a venue that will is expected to attract more than 500,000 visitors a year and generate more than $100 millionin economic benefit each year.
Infrastructure NSW Project Director Tim Parker said the interim exhibition facility almost replicates in size the current exhibition space at Darling Harbour, stating "previously, we asked tenderers for 15,000 metre2 of enclosed space, with the extra 10,000 metre2 to be available on a temporary basis for the larger shows."
Parker said Sydney Harbour Expo's larger design was endorsed by all the major exhibition organisers who use current facilities at Darling Harbour and came at the same cost to the NSW Government.
