Sydney Aquarium Turns 21

Sydney Aquarium has celebrated its 21st birthday, having played host to more than 21 million visitors since opening its doors in 1988.

Sydney Aquarium boasts the worldâs largest collection of all-Australian aquatic life - in eight habitats, 60 tanks and three oceanariums and is home to over 12,000 aquatic animals from 650 species.

From cute and feathery penguins, bright coral fish and fascinating weedy sea dragons to fearsome sharks and crocodiles Sydney Aquarium presents a world class display where visitors take an unforgettable journey under the sea.

Milestones from Sydney Aquarium's 21 year include:

• Over 21 million people walking through the iconic underwater tunnels and shark mouth entry;
• Filtering approximately 15,000 Olympic swimming pools of water;
• Feeding nearly three million kilograms of food to its aquatic animals.

John Harnden, Chief Executive of Village Roadshow International Theme Parks explains "weâre delighted to be celebrating this milestone and will continue Sydney Aquarium's great legacy of entertaining and educating residents and visitors of this wonderful city.

"Through the introduction of new and exciting themes, experiences and exhibits we will grow and maintain Sydney Aquarium's world class reputation."
