Swim Schools Association recognises regional needs

The Australian Swim Schools Association (ASSA) has appointed Penny Soper, Managing Director of Swim Logic in Atherton, Far North Queensland, as a Board Director.

Seeking to broaden its representation and ensure it is always generating fresh ideas, ASSA recently called for expressions of interest to fill a vacancy on the Board.

Having assessed a range of quality applications, Soper was appointed as a Director of the Board

Running a four pool facility, including the Swim Logic Swim School, Soper competed nationally across various sports as a junior athlete before finding her passion for the swimming industry after leaving university. Her aim was to provide opportunities to people in regional areas with the highest quality standards, not letting location limit the swimmers’ potential.

Commenting on her appointment, ASSA Chief Executive Ross Gage stated “in addition to Penny’s exceptional expertise, experience and passion; her success in a regional area was a significant contributing factor (in her appointment to the Board).”

Soper has a Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Human Movement Studies (Exercise Management) from the University of Queensland in Brisbane. She has participated in National Swimming conferences annually for the past 18 years, presenting at the National ASCTA Conference twice during this time.

Soper (pictured) has grown her facility from a seasonal 50 metre pool, employing limited staff to an all year round facility, now employing 18 staff with quality and leading edge programs.

Establishing and growing the Swim Logic Swim School involved using best practice, alongside many adult fitness programs has meant the facility has become a thriving community hub for all.
