Survey to assess risk management in fitness

The Australian Fitness Industry Risk Management (AFIRM) team, in conjuction with Fitness Australia and Sports Medicine Australia, is seeking industry participation in nationwide survey of risk management practices in the fitness industry.

This study aims to answer two questions:

1. How does Australian regulation currently control risk management in the fitness industry and thereby prevent adverse health outcomes and injury, and the legal liability associated with those risks?

2. What sustainable changes could be made to Australian regulation for more effective risk management in the health and fitness industry in order to prevent the risk of adverse health outcomes and injury, and the legal liability associated with those risks?

The anonymous survey can be completed by fitness professionals who are either casual, part-time, full-time, managers, self-employed and/or owners.

Fitness industry professionals completing the survey go into the draw to win a return airfare, accommodation and ticket to Fitness Australia's industry breakfast and forum in Sydney in October. The runner-up will receive an iPad.

The Australian Fitness Industry Risk Management (AFIRM) project is led by Professor Patrick Keyzer of the Centre for Law, Governance and Public Policy, in conjunction with Professor Joachim Dietrich of Bond University; Professor Caroline Finch of the University of Ballarat; Professor Kevin Norton of the University of South Australia (UniSA) and Dr Betul Sekendiz of Central Queensland University.

Fitness industry professionals keen to have their say are invited to take the survey by 21st June.
