Surfers Paradise Foreshore Redevelopment Begins
Work has begun on the Gold Coast City Council's $25 million redevelopment of the Surfers Paradise foreshore.
Taking in the area from the northern end of The Esplanade between the new Soul development and Elkhorn Avenue, the project is funded by $20 million from the Council and $5 million from the Queensland Government.
The design of the new foreshore follows the Surfers Paradise Foreshore Masterplan which was endorsed by Council in 2007 and aims to reconnect the heart of Surfers Paradise with the beach, creating a unique open space that delivers environmental, social and economic benefits for the city.
The development, for which the Abigroup is managing contractor, is part of a $90 million economic stimulus package which aims to provide employment opportunities to Gold Coast workers as well as providing much needed infrastructure for the city.
In addition, Juniper Group (the owners of the new Soul development on The Esplanade) will be carrying out foreshore works in front of their site. These works will be fully funded by Juniper, following Councilâs design to ensure consistency throughout the foreshore redevelopment.
