Surf Life Saving WA coordinates successful Powercraft Skills Maintenance Initiative
Surf Life Saving WA coordinated a Powercraft Skills Maintenance Initiative in December 2024 which has since wrapped up, having proven to be a success.
Held across three locations - Pinnaroo Point, Hillarys Beach, and Trigg Island - the pilot program brought together nearly 150 powercraft operators from clubs spanning Secret Harbour to Yanchep.
Participants included:
78 IRB Drivers
40 IRB Crew Members
25 Jet Ski Operators
The sessions offered members a unique chance to:
Refine essential techniques like pickups, punch position, and uniform compliance.
Train in varied conditions and share knowledge across clubs.
Strengthen connections and foster a sense of community within the powercraft space.
The overwhelmingly positive feedback highlighted the value of training across diverse beach environments while collaborating with other Clubs. Many participants noted the practical benefits of refining their techniques and improving their understanding of benchmarks and standards.
Surf Life Saving WA thanked Jacqui McGregor, Ian Smallwood, Garry and Megan Williams, and Surf Life Saving WA’s Domenic Cowdell and Sandy Clarke, for their passion and dedication in making the initiative a reality.
The support from Clubs including Mullaloo, Sorrento, Quinns/Mindarie, Trigg, Yanchep, Swanbourne, City of Perth, Floreat, and Secret Harbour was invaluable, with many already expressing interest in hosting sessions next season.
This initiative has laid the foundation for future collaborative training opportunities, ensuring powercraft members remain skilled, confident, and connected, with SLSWA looking forward to building on this success in the seasons to come.
