Surf Life Saving NSW jet ski fleet boosted to increase beach safety for swimmers
The addition of 11 new jet skis to the Surf Life Saving NSW (SLS NSW) fleet will bring the total to 49 patrolling NSW beaches. Jet ski trials began back in 2002 and have been vital to thousands of rescues over the years.
The jet skis will play a pivotal role in supporting SLS NSW to prevent further drownings. Swimmers are also reminded to learn how to spot and avoid rip currents, not to overestimate their abilities in the surf and swim between the red and yellow flags.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the 11 new jet skis, all equipped with rescue sleds, will be deployed across NSW beaches this summer thanks to $220,000 in NSW Government funding.
Premier Berejiklian advised “Surf Life Saving NSW and our emergency services are working hard to prevent drownings this summer and these new jet skis will play a key role in preventing more tragedies."
