Sunshine Coast adventure park zip-line accident investigated by Workplace Health and Safety

Workplace Health and Safety are investigating the circumstances that resulted in a nine-year old boy falling seven metres from a zip-line at TreeTop Challenge adventure park in Woombye, on Sunshine Coast.

Paramedics were called to the Sunshine Coast attraction on Nambour Connection Road at Woombye on Sunday about 3pm after receiving reports a boy had fallen.

A Workplace Health and Safety Queensland spokesperson said a comprehensive investigation was underway and advised that relevant equipment had been seized, including part of the zip-line and harness.

The spokesperson advised that at this stage, zip-line activity has not resumed.

A Sunshine Coast University Hospital spokesperson said the nine-year-old boy had been released from hospital after being treated for back pain with a Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson advising the boy was not suspected to have sustained spinal injuries.

The TreeTop Challenge located at the Big Pineapple on the Sunshine Coast is promoted as Australia's “highest and most thrilling adventure park” which includes “100 Epic Challenges and 12 Huge Flying Foxes spread over five amazing courses that are suspended in stunning rainforest. Our courses start very easy and progressively get more and more adventurous.”
