Squash Victoria announces plan to grow Australian Open in Melbourne
The Australian Open is back on the calendar this year, and will be played at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre from 3rd to 9th August.
Squash Mad Australia reports that the Open will feature a prize fund of $25,000 dollars for each of the male and female world-ranking tournaments – with equal prize money for men and women.
Marking the first time the event will be included on squash’s international circuit since Canberra in 2012, the organisers, Squash and Racketball Victoria, are hoping to attract sponsors to build the event over the next three years and make it attractive to the world’s leading players, particularly the top overseas-based Australian players.
