Sport participation to benefit from planned lighting upgrades at sportsgrounds in Brimbank
Brimbank Council has awarded a contract for sportsground lighting upgrade works at Churchill Reserve, St Albans, Ainsworth Reserve, Sunshine West and Ralph Reserve, Sunshine West.
Mayor of Brimbank, Councillor Lucinda Congreve said the substantial improvements planned for the Brimbank sporting facilities would go a long way to support the growing levels of sport participation in our community.
“This project will invest approx. $990,000 in sportsground lighting improvements to soccer pitch No. 3 at Churchill Reserve, the football oval at Ainsworth Reserve, and the soccer pitch at Ralph Reserve. This will increase the grounds capacity and will serve the clubs well for training and competition.
“Council expects the lighting upgrades across the three sports reserves will continue to boost participation in sport for people of all ages, abilities and gender.
“This is important work – we know that improvements to sport facilities have a real and measurable impact on participation and levels of physical activity – supporting everyone in our community to live healthy and active lives.
“The lighting upgrade works will provide increased opportunity for sport and recreation and better access for the wider community,” said Councillorr Congreve.
Sports and Recreation Victoria has contributed $250,000 funding towards the lighting project upgrades at Churchill Reserve, St Albans.
The lighting upgrades are expected to be completed by early June 2019.
