South Australian Government commits $10 million to public open space
The South Australian Government has announced the allocation of $10 million in grants for 26 open space projects.
The funding, provided to councils from the South Australian Planning and Development Fund, includes backing to progress Coast Park in Port Noarlunga, as well as a number of significant reserve upgrades including Fremont Park in Elizabeth Park and Hanson Reserve in Woodville Gardens.
Grants in Prospect, Kent Town, Hindmarsh, Thebarton, Glenelg and Modbury will assist in establishing public spaces for active communities.
More than $3.5 million of the total investment is for regional South Australia, with grants to support 10 initiatives in areas including Victor Harbor, Kangaroo Island, Coober Pedy and the Copper Coast.
In rural areas a key project to be backed is the Rural City of Murray Bridge’s Sixth Street Revitalisation project, which earlier this year also received a $1.7 million South Australian Government grant.

“Great access to walking trails and coast parks also support healthy living be encouraging more active lifestyles.
“All of these excellent projects … will benefit greatly from the funding which will include the development of shared use paths, the creation of large civic event spaces, play spaces for children and streetscape upgrades.”
