Snow falls at new winter attraction in Bangkok
Residents in Thailand's capital are now able to experience snow for the first time with the opening of the Bangkok Snow Town, a new winter themed attraction.
With Bangkok being known for its tropical climate, the snowy attraction, which generates artificial snow, will offer a welcome respite from the humidity of the South East Asian city.
Developed by Thai property developer TCC Land in partnership with Japanese ski-property developer KK daVinci Holdings, the THB200 million (US$5.7 million) attraction is expected to bring in between 100,000 and 200,000 visitors a year.
Located on the fifth floor of Bangkok's Gateway Ekamai Mall and designed to resemble an alpine ski village, visitors can try a number of winter-themed activities over the 3,000 metre² development.
The attraction’s main slope – separate from the ski village– is designated for skiing and snowboarding, while other options available for visitors include an area for creating snow sculptures, a ‘play pen’ for snowball fights and an ice luge for tobogganing.
In addition to snow on the ground, guests will also experience snow falling from the ceiling, offering the complete winter experience. Food and beverage and retail outlets are located next to the attraction.
Bangkok has seasonal monsoons and temperatures averaging around 28 degrees year round, making the Bangkok Snow Town an attractive place for citizens and tourists to cool off.
