Skills Active named among New Zealand’s top workplaces

Skills Active Aotearoa has been announced as a finalist in the Small Workplace category of the 2017 IBM Best Workplaces Survey.

New Zealand’s largest and longest-running employee engagement survey, IBM Best Workplaces uses a confidential online survey for employees to rate their organisation on key areas, such as leadership, recognition, culture and engagement.

Skills Active Chief Executive, Grant Davidson, says "our people are our most important asset, and the Best Workplaces Survey is an effective tool to ensure everyone feels valued, engaged and able to thrive in their working environment.”

This year, over 35,000 employees across 173 organisations participated in the survey. Skills Active has taken part since 2009, and with a 12% increase on last year’s result, this is the first time the organisation has achieved finalist status.

Proud of this result, Dr Davidson believes that when employees feel valued, they have a greater investment in the performance of the organisation.

He added “here at Skills Active, we support our industry workplaces and help them upskill their staff.

"Therefore, it is fantastic that our own workplace has been recognised as a supportive organisation, whose staff feel appreciated and engaged.”

After analysing last year’s survey, the Skills Active Wellness Team chose Performance and Feedback as their key focus, and formulated ways to strengthen this area. Such action included implementing a Team Leadership Development Programme.

The success of working on this key focus area was reflected in the fact that the area with the most improvement from the 2016 survey was Performance and Feedback, with a 23% increase.

Dr Davidson concluded “these improvements demonstrate the effectiveness of the survey in identifying areas for continuous development, which provokes positive change within the organisation.”

Winners of each category will be announced on 31st January next year.
