Six Super Netball clubs to relocate to Adelaide

The Suncorp Super Netball League is relocating six clubs to Adelaide due to the developing Coronavirus situation.

The Melbourne Vixens, Collingwood Magpies, NSW Swifts and GIANTS Netball will depart Melbourne for Adelaide today to ensure that the Suncorp Super Netball season can be completed.

They will be followed by the Queensland Firebirds and the Sunshine Coast Lightning, who will travel to South Australia tomorrow.

At this stage, the West Coast Fever will remain in Perth.

A number of umpires will also travel to Adelaide over the next 24 hours.

The League has been in constant discussions with the government to ensure all clubs can arrive in South Australia safely, in line with their health requirements, thanking the South Australian Government and SA Health for their support with relocating the clubs.

The league is working through the Round 11 fixture and is considering all options, including a condensed season and will provide an update on the fixture as soon as possible.

Commenting on the challenge, Netball Australia Chief Executive, Kelly Ryan stated “we have moved quickly and decisively as the coronavirus situation develops.

“We have worked closely with the clubs to determine this is the best immediate option to ensure the season is completed, with the wellbeing of our athletes at the forefront of the decision-making process.

“I’d like to thank our players, coaches, staff, officials and umpires for their willingness to relocate to deliver a full, 60 game season of Suncorp Super Netball.”
