Elton John's star shines over Sydney

To celebrate Sir Elton John's record-breaking 45 concerts at the iconic Sydney Entertainment Centre (SEC) since 1983, venue officials have acknowledged the remarkable milestone by officially naming a Southern Hemisphere star 'The Sir Elton John Star'.

In collaboration with the Sydney Observatory, the newly named Star in the Constellation of Phoenix was dedicated to the British singer-songwriter prior to the first of his two Sydney concerts last week.

A special commemorative plaque celebrating Sir Elton's record of performing more concerts than any other any artist at the Sydney Entertainment Centre was presented to him prior to taking to the stage.

Elton's Rocket Man Tour celebrates forty years since the release of the No. 1 single and the vast array of global hits he has performed and recorded throughout his stellar career.

Sir Elton John was presented with the plaque by SEC General Manager Steve Romer.
