Singapore Government to construct temporary venue for 2025 World Aquatics Championships

Details of Singapore’s hosting of the 2025 World Aquatics Championships have been revealed with the event to be staged from 11th July and 3rd August next year at the Singapore Sports Hub.

At a launch event held on Friday to mark the one-year countdown to the event, it was announced that the championships will feature six different disciplines: swimming, water polo, diving, artistic swimming, open water swimming and high diving.

Friday’s presentation also saw the unveiling of the logo and motto for the Championships, ‘Water Shapes Us’, a theme that aims to highlight the values of adaptability and resilience act as the core to summarise Singapore’s relationship with water and the importance of this element in the country’s development and identity.

Among locations and venues announced to stage Championship events, water polo and diving competitions will take place at the OCBC Aquatic Centre within the Singapore Sports Hub, while the open water swimming and high diving events will be held at Palawan Beach and Palawan Green respectively, both located on Sentosa Island.

Similarly, this island will host the AQUA Fiesta, ensuring more fans of aquatic sports can experience world-class sporting action.

In addition, a new temporary venue for swimming and artistic swimming events with a capacity of 4,800 people will be built at the Singapore Sports Hub. The venue will include two pools, spectator stands, and a fan zone with interactive activities, merchandise areas, sponsor stands, and food and beverage stalls.

It will be located on Carpark G, near the Singapore Sports Hub’s Kallang Tennis Hub venue.

Speaking at the launch event, Alan Goh, Co-Chairman of the Singapore 2025 organising committee and Chief Executive of Sport Singapore, stated “we are pleased to start this one-year countdown. Singapore will be the first Southeast Asian country to host a World Aquatics Championships, and this is a wonderful opportunity for Singapore, as a maritime nation, to celebrate our achievements in many water-related domains.

“We hope these events will inspire our next generation of aquatic athletes.”

Mark Chay, Co-Chairman of the organising committee and President of Singapore Aquatics, Mark Chay, added “Singapore has much to be proud of regarding our strength as a host nation. We have renowned facilities that have hosted numerous international competitions, including the 2015 SEA Games. We will see innovative use of available spaces, which will be prepared for high-level competition and for spectators to fully enjoy aquatic sports.”

Over 2,500 athletes representing the 209 national federations that are members of World Aquatics expected to participate in the Championships.

Alongside the 2025 World Aquatics Championships, Singapore will also host the 2025 World Aquatics Masters Championships, a mass participation event for local and international participants over 25 years old.

Earlier this month, it was announced that the Women’s Tennis Association would return to Singapore in 2025 after a three-year deal was agreed for a WTA 250 tournament at the Kallang Tennis Hub.
