Singapore Government calls for public help to 'co-create' three new regional parks
Three of Singapore's national parks, Admiralty Park, East Coast Park and Jurong Lake Park, are to be developed into large regional parks, with the Government calling for the public to help 'co-create' them.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced the creation of the 'destination parks' last weekend, with the three parks selected based on geographical location - one each from the North, East and West - to be transformed into green hubs.
This means the parks are to feature unique elements not found in public parks, such as giant slides and adventure playgrounds.
Prime Minister Lee said that these are just ideas to start the ball rolling, and members of the public can share their ideas with the National Parks Board (NParks), stating "what do you want to see in your parks? More facilities for old people? More slides for young people? More nature (or) food and drink options?"
The ideas asked for are not just to develop the parks physically, but to transform them into open areas for 'neighbourly culture' to thrive.
NParks Chief Executive NParks Poon Hong Yuen said the Government is determined to use public feedback to shape the parks.
