Significant year for Aquatics and Recreation Victoria
Aquatics and Recreation Victoria, Victoria’s peak industry body for aquatics and recreation, has commenced its year with the appointment of Grant Connors as its new Chief Executive.
Connors, a strong advocate for the industry, replaces Anthony McIntosh, who took up the position of Chief Executive of Little Athletics Victoria before Christmas.
Having commenced his career in real estate, Connors has been a manager with Paul Sadler Swimland since 2013.
Other changes at ARV have seen George Angelopoulos move to Football Federation Victoria as General Manager - Football Development and Deputy to Chief Executive Maxwell Gratton.
Having joined ARV in 2013 as Manager of Business and Stakeholder Development, Angelopoulos has been an integral link between ARV and its members, affiliates and partners.
In addition, VICSWIM Coordinator Amanda Maher has left to take up a role managing a swim school in Frankston.
In her time at ARV, Maher dedicated herself to many projects including the VICSWIM and the pilot BEAST program.
Looking forward, a statement from ARV advises “the excitement of a new year brings with it fresh optimism for what lies ahead in 2017 and it is shaping up to be a significant year with both opportunities and responsibilities for all of us within the aquatic and recreation industry.”
Currently, VICSWIM are providing swimming lessons to more than 10,000 school-aged children during the holidays while also running the inaugural ‘Learn to Swim & Sail’ program from the Mornington Yacht Club in collaboration with Sailing Australia.
ARV has also announced that it is partnering with the Rural City of Wangaratta and Sport & Recreation Victoria to present the second edition of the Victorian Country Pools Conference.
This major regional event will be held at the Wangaratta Performing Arts Centre on Wednesday 3rd and Thursday 4th May 2017.
