Should your story be here? - making the most of media

At Australasian Leisure Management we aim to publish industry news that is relevant to professionals from all areas of the leisure industry - aquatics, attractions, entertainment, events, fitness, parks, recreation, sport, tourism and venues – covering issues relating to the management of populations’ out-of-home free time.

We set out to provide quality, informed and valuable news to aid professionals in doing their jobs and making decisions.

There are great things to report on about this wonderful industry that amuses, entertains and stimulates while also improving peoples’ quality of life and being part of the highest levels of artistic and sporting performance.

In providing a high quality news service Australasian Leisure Management aims to meet the highest standards of public trust as behoves the finest independent media sources, with objective reporting and balanced opinion.

We are sometimes asked about our sources – which are many and varied. We rely on industry press releases; a network of valuable contributors who share stories, leads and ideas; trusted industry contacts and decades of industry experience.

And we also welcome anyone with a story to tell about what is going on in this wonderful industry.

On our contributors page (click here) we provide some guidance for anybody unsure about submitting a story but at all times stress that what contributors send us does not have to be 'journalistically' perfect – after all, many Australasian Leisure Management contributors are at the sharp end of the industry, and are not journalists.

Oddly, not all operators in all sectors of this industry are comfortable with, or have the resources to, share their news and stories. This is a shame, as we are an industry with a great story to tell.

Our independence and credibility also means we don’t necessarily gush about things. We aim for objectivity and any reader will struggle to find us describing anything as “awesome” – we’ll leave that for social media!

We also welcome, and publish, news on new products and services, developments and achievements. Again, as a way of informing industry professionals.

And at the same time, Australasian Leisure Management does scrutinise - reporting on areas and issues where they industry has made mistakes and from which it can learn.

However, in scrutinising the industry we hope that readers will find that Australasian Leisure Management does not sensationalise in the manner of popular media outlets.

An example of the standing of Australasian Leisure Management magazine is that when Sir Richard Branson visited Australia late last year to launch new Virgin Active Health Clubs, we were the only business media that he spoke with.

Published bi-monthly since 1997, the printed Australasian Leisure Management magazine is a unique management resource covering industry best practice and industry developments that managers use and refer to repeatedly. The magazine has over 10,000 readers.

Updated daily and linked to a weekly e-newsletter, the www.ausleisure.com.au website publishes the latest news from across the leisure industry. Google Analytics shows that the website attracts 35,000 page views each month.

So now is the time to share your news with the world of leisure.
