Shoalhaven community invited to offer input on parks, pools and playgrounds

Shoalhaven City Council’s Community Infrastructure Strategic Plan is one of Council’s biggest strategies and is now under review.

With more than 600 open space and community facilities across the Shoalhaven, Council is asking the community to provide input on what they want from the buildings, parks, pools, sportsgrounds and playgrounds in their neighbourhoods.

The Community Infrastructure Strategic Plan establishes a 30-year vision for community facilities and open spaces to help guide short, medium and long-term planning and investment. 

Mayor Patricia White said the review gathers data on how, why and when people use community facilities which contribute to the region’s liveability.

Mayor White noted “we want to hear from everyone - sporting groups, mums and dads, community consultative bodies, special interest groups, seniors, young people, people with disabilities and their carers.

“Beyond bricks and mortar, our open space and community facilities connect us as a community and provide places for people to gather, socialise and engage in recreational activities.

“We know there is always room for improvement when it comes to the maintenance and planning of our community facilities and over the years we’ve heard what you’ve said. We need you to continue to provide that feedback to create this true blueprint for the future that we can act upon.

“The Shoalhaven is a very large region and gathering data on the hundreds of open spaces and community facilities is a massive undertaking. We really need our residents and community groups to have their say on how they use these facilities and what they want in the future.” 

Projects delivered under the current Community Infrastructure Strategic Plan include the premier sporting facility, Artie Smith Oval in Bomaderry, as well as Boongaree Destination Park in Berry.

The community is now encouraged to participate in the review of this strategy via an online survey until Monday 30th June. 

A series of targeted focus groups, workshops and face-to-face engagement will also be carried out to ensure we hear from a wide cross-section of the community. Information about these events can be found here. https://getinvolved.shoalhaven.nsw.gov.au/what-else-is-happening

The Community Infrastructure Strategic Plan was last reviewed in 2017 and once complete, the new document will be reviewed every five years.
