Shenzhen Grand Theatre prepares for September Arts Festival
The 16th Grand Theatre Art Festival will open in the Chinese city of Shenzhen on 7th September with a vocal concert headed by tenor Zhang Jianyi, bass Shen Yang and baritone Liao Changyong.
Theatre Art Now will be presenting 10 programs ranging from vocals, drama, dance to traditional Chinese operas over a three month period.
This year the Shenzhen Grand Theatre hopes to appeal younger audiences to watch traditional Chinese opera by filling the festival with more drama shows and younger stars. Among the stars of the opening concert, Zhang is a regular guest at the world's leading opera houses, including the Vienna State Opera and New York Metropolitan Opera. A graduate of the Julliard Opera Centre and Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Zhang is also represented by Universal while both Liao and Shen are China's leading male singers who are familiar with the local audiences.
The last time the three performed together was in Shenzhen in 2010.
Aside from the performance of the three male vocals, the festival will also have a program featuring pianist Liu Shikun and Violinist Sheng Zhongguo along with other performances with young stars of the Shanghai Opera House.
