Seven cities to bid for 2013 World Swimming Championships

Following Melbourneâs hosting of the 2007 World Swimming Championships, FINA (swimmingâs international governing body) have advised that seven cities have expressed their interest in hosting the 2013 event.
FINA has reported that Hong Kong, Dubai, Madrid, Belgrade, Hamburg, Budapest and Moscow have all said that they are interested in hosting the Championships. A March 2009 deadline for presenting a formal bid will be followed by an announcement on the 2013 hosts during the next world championships in Rome in July.
Con Conway, a member of the Hong Kong Sports Federation and Olympic Committee, told local media, "if Hong Kong is to be Asia's sports events capital, which we are all in favour of, then we need to host world championships like these. We are delighted that the Hong Kong Amateur Swimming Association is bidding for the event and we would hope the government will back them all the way."
