Seminar to Explain Lessons from Mangatepopo Gorge Tragedy
Andrew Brookes, of the Centre for Excellence in Outdoor and Environmental Studies at Latrobe University, is to share his thoughts and observations about the lessons that can be learned from the Mangatepopo Gorge tragedy of 2008 at seminar in Melbourne next week.
Seven people died in this terrible incident that occurred during a program being run for Elim College in New Zealand by the Sir Edmund Hillary Outdoor Pursuit Centre (OPC). Andrew was one of three members of an expert panel that was assembled by the Board of Trustees of the OPC to examine the circumstances and causes of this incident.
The panel's comprehensive report reveals a number of lessons that should be learnt and applied by everyone who leads others in the outdoors.
The event is being held from 10am to 4pm, on Friday 26th November, 2010 at the Victorian Department of Sport and Recreation, Theatrette, Rear Ground Floor, 1 Spring Street, Melbourne.
