Sea World's baby Polar Bear delights visitors through the holiday season

Sea World's baby Polar Bear 'Henry' has been a major attraction over the holiday season, delighting crowds at the Gold Coast theme parks with his playful and inquisitive nature.

The seven and a half month old cub has been a major drawcard for park guests since first discovering the wonders of Polar Pre-School.

Sea World Polar Bear keeper Kerri Gaskin said that the enrichment program for Henry is an important part of his development.

Gaskin explained "when you introduce new toys, food, games and puzzles it does stimulate the senses just as it does with human babies. Henry is growing very fast and providing enrichment for him is extremely important.

"We have created a colourful and varied Christmas scene and wrapped presents up for Henry to rip apart and enjoy. There will be plenty of his favourite treats and he will entertain himself under the watchful eye of his Mum Liya."

Polar Pre-School is a wonderfully enriching environment featuring a large pool, various substrates and natural vegetation as well as foraging pits for Liya and Henry to dig and play in.

Sea World's Polar Bears are ambassadors for their species and play a vital role in raising awareness of the effects of global warming. Current research indicates that Polar Bear numbers in the wild are declining, with 20,000 to 25,000 bears remaining worldwide.
