SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium secures membership of prestigious World Association of Zoos and Aquariums
SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium has become the first aquarium in the Oceania region to be awarded membership of World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA).
This prestigious recognition sees SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium join the ranks of the world's most influential and impactful zoos and aquariums in the conservation and welfare space.
Richard Dilly, Cluster General Manager at Merlin Entertainments Sydney attractions enthused "we are thrilled to join WAZA, reinforcing our commitment to marine conservation and education on a global scale. We look forward to collaborating with global partners to protect our oceans."
WAZA, the unifying organisation for the global zoo and aquarium community, promotes cooperation and collaboration between zoos and aquariums worldwide. It facilitates coordination between national and regional associations and encourages the highest standards in member institutions.
Dr Martín Zordan, WAZA Chief Executive added “we are thrilled to welcome SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium to the WAZA community. This year, our annual conference will be held in Sydney, and I am confident that many of our members will appreciate the chance to visit our new member institution, especially as we endeavour to incorporate more aquariums into our community.”
This achievement is expected to open new doors for SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium, enabling it to contribute to global conservation efforts and learn from the best practices of other leading institutions worldwide.
