SCG Trust donates stadium seats to NSW venues
With work having started on the construction of the Sydney Cricket Ground's new state-of-the-art Northern Stand, the SCG Trust is donating close to 6,000 seats to NSW country and Sydney suburban sports grounds.
The individual bucket seats have been removed from the Noble, Bradman and Messenger Stands and will be delivered to sports groups and venues in Armidale, Walcha, Canberra and Wollongong as well as to the Leichhardt Oval and Wentworth Park in Sydney.
SCG Trust Chief Executive Jamie Barkley said the Trust was delighted that regional and suburban clubs and grounds will be able to upgrade their spectator facilities.
Barkley explained "while the SCG's three Stands no longer meet the requirements of the modern day spectator, the seats are in first rate order and will provide great comfort for local sports games, competitions and championships."
The SCG's new four-level stand will offer spectators superior viewing, first class facilities and further enhance the SCG's unmatched atmosphere.
Seats will be closer to the field of play. More seats will be under cover ï¾ some 85% - and no views will be obstructed.
The Northern Stand's new video screen will be the largest in any Australian sports ground.
The development will be ready for the Ashes cricket Test between Australia and England in January 2014.
