Sarawak prepares for 19th Rainforest World Music Festival

From 5th to 7th August 2016, Sarawak’s capital, Kuching, will resonate with the entrancing sounds and rhythms of the 19th Rainforest World Music Festival.

Each year, thousands of music lovers from around the globe make the annual pilgrimage to Sarawak for this unique event, which brings together renowned World Music performers from every continent with indigenous Bornean musicians for a three-day celebration of music workshops and action-packed stage shows.

Voted among the top 25 international festivals for the sixth year running by preeminent world music magazine, Songlines, the event features a wide range of performances from traditional music, through to world fusion and contemporary world music, with empathis on the use of traditional acoustic world instruments. Key attractions include interactive musical workshops, jamming sessions, mini concerts, and of course, electrifying performances from internationally acclaimed musicians on the main each night against the dramatic backdrop of tropical virgin rainforest.

The Rainforest World Music Festival is not only a celebration of World Music, with its Festival Village set among traditional Orang Ulu and Iban longhouses, where local artisans exhibit and sell Borneo arts and handicrafts, Festival memorabilia, CDs by performing artists, cultural displays and souvenirs, as well as a great selection of food stalls where you can sample some of the delectable local cuisine for which Sarawak is rightly famous.
