Sandstorm Events to deliver imaginative and immersive sand sculpture trail experience for Echuca Moama

Jointly delivered by Murray River Council, Campaspe Shire Council and Campaspe Port Enterprise (Port of Echuca), a sand sculpture trail will be crafted by Sandstorm Events, transforming public spaces into a captivating family adventure through a series of large-scale handcrafted sand installations.

The spectacular sand sculpture trail will see the popular classic ‘Alice in Wonderland’ come to life in Echuca Moama this summer as ‘Wonderland on the Murray’ – situated on the Murray River’s edge running from 13th December 2025 to 9th March 2026.

Sandstorm Events, Australia's leading provider of large-scale sand sculpture experiences, will bring the trail to life with its skilled team of sculptors, renowned for transforming public spaces into interactive attractions that encourage exploration.

Sharon Redmond, Director of Sandstorm Events noted "Sandstorm Events is proud to partner with Murray River Council, Campaspe Shire Council and Campaspe Port Enterprise to deliver this landmark tourism experience. Wonderland on the Murray showcases the artistry and storytelling power of sand sculpture at its finest, and we look forward to creating a visually stunning and engaging trail that will enhance the visitor experience across Echuca Moama throughout the Summer."

A free event for all ages, Wonderland on the Murray will run for 12 weeks, offering an immersive experience that invites visitors to follow Alice's journey while exploring the beauty of Echuca Moama.

Murray River Council Mayor, John Harvie said the event will offer a point of difference and something new over the summer period noting "this experience will fill a valuable gap in our tourism calendar, attracting new and returning visitors during typically quieter months for events."

Campaspe Shire Mayor, Daniel Mackrell added "With no other town in Australia offering a sand sculpture trail of this kind during the summer months, Wonderland on the Murray is set to become a must-see summer highlight, creating 'wow' moments for people of all ages."

Campaspe Port Enterprise Chair, Joanne Butterworth-Gray said it was exciting to be delivering an initiative that would encourage day-trippers and overnight visitors from across the region, and beyond and shared "It will be a unique, visually striking experience and we can't wait to work with Sandstorm Events to bring it to life this Summer."

The journey will begin at the historic Port of Echuca, where visitors will see Alice tumble down the rabbit hole into a world of wonder, before continuing through the Port and Aquatic Reserve with eight sculptures depicting iconic moments and characters from the timeless tale.

Crossing the Murray River into Moama, the trail will conclude at Kerrabee Reserve, where Alice's Tea Party, set inside the Soundshell, will mark the magical finale to her adventure.

Featured installations along the trail will include:

  • Alice falling down the rabbit hole

  • The Caterpillar and Cheshire Cat

  • The White Rabbit's House

  • Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum

  • The White Rabbit on his way to the tea party
