SafeWork SA looks to work with ride operators in lead up to the Royal Adelaide Show

In advance of the 2017 Royal Adelaide Show, SafeWork SA is again working with the Royal Agricultural and Horticultural Society of South Australia to enhance all aspects of health and safety.

As part of this process, SafeWork SA Inspectors will be checking amusement devices, catering sites, dangerous substances storage, stages, tents and marquees.

An advisory note from SafeWork SA states “amusement devices will be subjected to an audit using the nationally agreed audit tool, irrespective of any prior audits conducted by another regulator. These audits may include visual inspection and functional testing.

“As in 2016, independent mechanical and electrical engineers will support SafeWork SA inspectors during the audit process. These competent persons will primarily focus on critical mechanical, electrical and electronic safety elements of the amusement device.”

A letter detailing specific information is set to be sent directly to amusement device owners.

SafeWork SA goes on to advise that the statutory work health and safety and public safety body “encourages owners and operators to arrive and set up at the showgrounds as soon as practicably possible to facilitate a quicker audit process and allow enough time for any identified issues to be rectified before the show commences.”
