Safety upgrades underway for Hidden Valley motorsport complex

Safety upgrades to the Northern Territory’s key motorsport complex, Hidden Valley, are underway to enhance the venue for both drivers and fans.

In Budget 2024, the Northern Territory Government committed $3 million to begin work to significantly transform the world class Hidden Valley motorsports precinct.

The Hidden Valley track has undergone $400,000 in safety upgrades, which include the installation of concrete barriers, triple guardrail, footpaths and stormwater drainage at the Northern Section of the track which will improve safety for drivers.

There are another $300,000 in upgrades underway with designs to improve the pathway at the spectator’s hairpin and replace lighting at the grass pits with LED lights.

Works on the first stage in the Hidden Valley Master Plan will begin in the coming months with the commencement of the disability access audit.

The audit will identify the priority works needed to be completed to provide better access for motorsport fans with disabilities.

The first stage of the Masterplan also includes upgrades to the pits area including installing a shade canopy, stairs and additional pit spaces, a new control tower and medical centre and creating a new entrance to the precinct.

The upgrades come as the Territory prepares for the V8 Supercars Betr Darwin Triple Crown this weekend.

There will be action on and off the track this weekend for the Supercars beginning with the popular Night Transporter Convoy tonight.

This will be followed by an Australian first on Thursday with the drivers hitting the road in their own Supercars to The Esplanade to meet the fans for a signing session.

At the Supercars, Nitro Up North will see more than 90 nitro-fuelled machines, including two Top Fuel rigs, will put the pedal to the metal and race down the drag strip at Hidden Valley.

“Tens of thousands of Territorians will go through the gates at Hidden Valley over the weekend and it is one of the biggest events in the Territory.”
