Royal Yacht Club of Victoria to develop new marina at Williamstown

Australia’s oldest Royal yacht club is to develop a $14 million state-of-the-art marina in the Melbourne port suburb of Williamstown.

The Royal Yacht Club of Victoria will replace and extend its current marina with a new floating structure that will provide berthing for 240 boats

Explaining how the prestigious Club has a comprehensive understanding of the key features needed in the new marina, Club Commodore David Seaman states “the new marina will have both wave and surge attenuation, to provide a safe environment for our current and future members.

“Our design brief is focused on meeting our member’s needs today with additional capacity for the future.

“We understand that boats are getting bigger and we have designed our new Marina accordingly.

“We have also recognised the current interest in power boats and we have some pens available for them.

“We are committed to improving the boating experience for all of our members and visitors with state of the art facilities such as wider walkways, power and water for every berth, pump-out, maintenance and repair facilities.”

Past Commodore and 34 time Sydney to Hobart veteran Bruce Taylor has also thrown his support behind the project, adding tThis facility will be the most modern and most protected Yacht Club marina on the Bay. It is in the heart of Melbourne's traditional marine precinct, Williamstown, 15 minutes from the CBD and 25 minutes from Melbourne International Airport"

This project has been under development and consideration for some years, and more recently, the Club has been working with Parks Victoria, Victoria Police, the Victorian Government and relevant authorities to ensure the new marina becomes a reality.

The timeframe for the completion of the new marina is contingent on the Club raising capital for the project through the sale of Long-term Leases to sailing and motor boat owners.

RYCV is offering 20-year leases for pens in the new Marina and is now actively seeking expressions of interest from the boating community via the website and the Club office.

More information on the project can be found on the RYCV website  - www.rycv.com.au - and new Marina Facebook page - facebook.com/RYCVNewMarina - which will be continually updated as the project evolves throughout 2015.
