Rise of 24/7 gyms heightens security requirements

The growth and increasing popularity of 24/7 gyms in Australia brings with it security obligations for facility operators.

Against a backdrop of the growth of 24/7 gyms, the in rural and urban areas, often operating with limited personnel, the recent Security 2012 Exhibition showcased the latest security technologies and services for these and other facilities.

Held from 25th to 27th July at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre, visitors to Security 2012 were able to learn about the latest security products and trends in areas such as alarms, CCTV and access technologies, givingfacility managers the opportunity to gain a better understanding of how they can protect their premises, even at times when no or only skeleton staff are onsite.

Security 2012 Exhibition Director Brett Judd explained "security is a key selling point for 24/7 gyms, as visitors need to be comfortable about their level of personal safety, especially at off-peak times during the night hours.

"At Security 2012, facility operators had the chance to see the latest security technologies on displayandmeet accredited service suppliers."

This year marked the 27th edition of the event, endorsed by the industry's peak body, the Australian Security Industry Association Limited (ASIAL).

The growth in 24/7 gyms is a feature in the July/August 2012 issue of Australasian Leisure Management.
