Ride manufacturers among IAAPA 2024 Hall of Fame Inductees
IAAPA, the global association for the attractions industry, has announced the four newest members to be inducted into its Hall of Fame:
Dick Chance: former Chief Executive of Chance Rides
Geoff Chutter: founder and Chief Executive of WhiteWater
Rick Hunter: President & Chief Executive ProSlide Technology
Clark Robinson: former President and Chief Executive of IAAPA
The IAAPA Hall of Fame was established in 1990 to honour legends and pioneers for their significant contributions to the growth and development of the global attractions industry. Over the past three decades, dozens of industry pioneers from around the world have been inducted to the IAAPA Hall of Fame.
John McReynolds, chairman of the IAAPA Hall of Fame Committee noted “we could not be more thrilled with this year’s Hall of Fame inductees. These four individuals truly represent more than 100 years of influence and imagination that has resonated throughout our industry."
IAAPA will celebrate the latest members to its Hall of Fame during a separately ticketed event during the IAAPA Expo, on 18th November.
This year’s honourees include:
Dick Chance, following his college graduation in 1970, joined Chance Rides, the company founded by his father, Harold Chance, in 1961. After purchasing the company in 1985, Dick took over as Chief Executive, leading the business through significant growth, including the expansion of its product line to feature ornate carousels. A dedicated industry leader, Dick served as president of AREA, now AIMS International, and led the Showmen’s League of America in 2000. His contributions have left a lasting impact on the amusement industry.
Geoff Chutter, founder and Chief Executive of WhiteWater, transformed the water park industry with his vision and determination. In 1980, he opened a water park in British Columbia, Canada, building the slides himself. Under his leadership, WhiteWater transformed into a global one-stop shop for water park needs, growing to seven regional offices and 500 employees. Through strategic acquisitions, innovation, and a commitment to safety, WhiteWater now delivers world-class water slides, aquatic play, and more, with over 5,000 projects for leading entertainment brands worldwide.
Rick Hunter, President and Chief Executive of ProSlide Technology Inc and a 40-year veteran in the industry, continues to drive innovation, share expertise, and uphold a legacy of excellence. Throughout his career, he has been at the forefront of pushing boundaries and setting new industry standards, from the early creation of the groundbreaking Mammoth River to his latest advancement with the RocketBLAST. Rick’s’s global influence on water parks and rides spans countless distinctive designs and cutting-edge solutions that have not only transformed the guest experience but have also introduced efficient, sustainable innovations that significantly reduce the environmental footprint of water slides. ProSlide Technology water rides can be found at parks by Disney, Six Flags, Great Wolf Resorts, Center Parcs and OCT.
Clark Robinson, former President and Chief Executive of IAAPA, played a pivotal role in shaping the future of the organisation. Before assuming the role of president and CEO in 2002, Clark dedicated over 27 years of his life to IAAPA in various volunteer leadership positions. Including but not limited to, first, second, and third chair of the Board of Directors, as well as vice president and treasurer. His leadership was instrumental in key milestones such as IAAPA's relocation from Chicago to Washington, D.C., the enhancement of its governance and committee structures, and the expansion of its global membership. Robinson's outstanding contributions to IAAPA, its members, and Lagoon Park make him a truly deserving inductee into the IAAPA Hall of Fame.
