Richmond FC and Swinburne University collaborate for club’s AFLW Best and Fairest Awards
Swinburne University of Technology and the Richmond Football Club have shared details of their collaboration in the design of the 2024 Richmond Football Club AFLW awards.
The collaboration saw the creation of bespoke trophies for various club awards, including Leading Goal Kicker, Best First Year Player, and Player's Player. Additionally, Swinburne crafted medals for the Top 3 in the Best and Fairest vote count.
The trophies and medals were designed to encapsulate the core values of Richmond’s AFLW playing group: focus, energy and connection.
Swinburne’s Centre of Design Innovation took inspiration from the iconic Sherrin football, with the trophies featuring an elongated, curved form that captures the most recognisable symbol of our great game.
The medals awarded to the club’s Top 3, featured a striking circular design that embodies unity and teamwork, reinforcing the values of teamwork and collaboration that are central to the Richmond Football Club.
In an exciting new project, Richmond’s Education Partner, Swinburne University of Technology designed bespoke medals & trophies presented at the recent 2025 Richmond AFLW Best & Fairest.
Advising that being trusted with the development and creation of the new awards is a huge privilege, Professor Blair Kuys of Swinburne’s School of Design and Architecture, stated “we're proud to see how the designs have been received and look forward to seeing the team on field in again 2025."
Through this project, Swinburne continue to strengthen their support of Richmond’s AFLW program, with Swinburne students Monique Conti and Ellie McKenzie receiving awards on the night.
Swinburne and Richmond recently signed a partnership extension which will see the partnership through until at least the end of 2028, making it over 10 years together.
