Review to position football for Asian Cup

The Government has asked the Hon Warwick Smith AM to conduct a review of football in Australia in order to position the FFA and Australian football in the lead-up to the 2015 AFC Asian Cup.
Former Federal Sports Minister Smith is the current Chair of the Australian Sports Commission.
The review will assess the structure, governance and administration of football in Australia, examine the development of its positioning for the Asian Cup and identify key opportunities to ensure the financial viability and sustainability of football in Australia. It will be conducted in conjunction with, and with the support of, the FFA.
The Asian Cup is Asia's premier sporting event and will draw an expected television audience of more than one billion.
Over the course of the 23 day tournament, 32 matches will be played in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and the Australian Capital Territory.
The 2015 Asian Cup will be a great chance to showcase Australia to a massive world audience and will bring with it important tourism, trade and economic benefits. It is also important that Australian football take full advantage of this opportunity to build a sustainable future for the game.
An analysis undertaken by PricewaterhouseCoopers indicates:
ï¾ Between 437,000 and 510,000 spectators will attend the 32 matches;
ï¾ Up to 45,000 international guests will travel to the tournament;
ï¾ About 6,200 journalists, photographers and broadcasters will work at the event; and
ï¾ Up to 1,000 jobs will be created nationally.
Smith's review is expected to take four to five months.
